With so many providers out there, which is the best VPN service available?
There are options for browser extensions but for the BEST options, we’ll be looking at the more robust options.
Why do you need a VPN?
VPN’s hide your IP address. You can look like you are in a different country than you really are, which is great for BBC iPlayer, Netflix and other country specific streaming services.
It’s also a great way to protect yourself from hackers accessing your data. Most hackers start from an IP address so if yours keeps changing, its going to be much more difficult to track.
A super secure password also helps!
Ask yourself…
Hot Spot Shield
BEST FOR: Speed.
Servers
Locations
Hot spot has a great service offering, although being on the pricey side. If you get the 2 year plan then it actually works out as one of the cheapest.
They also offer a chrome extension that you can download from the chrome store which is handy. It is limited to only 4 locations, where as the better paid version covers 25.
As for setup, its just a few clicks. Not many options to choose from but that is sometimes as easy as it needs to be!
SaferVPN
BEST FOR: All rounder.
Servers
Locations
SaferVPN is the best all-round VPN service. They also have a chrome extension which is free up to 500mb and you’ll need to be a subscriber to get access to that.
They offer some great plan options and are a little cheaper for shorter plans than Hot Spot.
You do have an issue that SaferVPN collects more usage data than the others so that it can build some global stats, which is a little disappointing.
HideMyAss VPN
BEST FOR: Locations
Servers
Locations
HideMyAss has a very mixed bag of reviews on the internet. It seems either people love it or hate it.
Its been mentioned that some experience issues with Netflix and other streaming networks but testing in Europe, I didn’t get issues of going to it via some bigger countries like the US.
If you are going to torrent, this is not the VPN for you. They have some mixed wording on their documentation and from the reviews they get its a definitive no.
NordVPN
BEST FOR: Advert and malware-free browsing.
Servers
Locations
NordVPN have been voted best VPN provider 2 years in a row by VPN Mentor which says a lot. They have some really good customer service, though you will potentially never need it.
They also have an incredible number of servers dotted around the globe which gives them much more of a stable connection than the others.
Its quick simple setup again makes this one of the easiest to use for beginners.
Conclusion
Each have their own stand out qualities, but I’d say the top 3 would be:
You can’t go wrong with any that you choose from on this list though.
